MAKING OF A SIGN
Everything is first drawn in pencil. After that the
letters are then routored.
Once the letters were completed the Hawk is then
burned into the wood. I start by outlining the Hawk
and his eye.
After the outline is complete, I begin shading. This
is
where it seems to take on a life of it's own.
sign, except the Hawk. Stain is a great way to enhance
the sign, as well as help protect it from the elements.
I've began experimenting with the colored stains, and
thought blue would represent the sky.
Once the stain is dry, I than painted the Hawk, using
only two colors yellow and white. After that several
coats of Helsman Spar Urethane are applied. This is what
gives it added protection, and a brilliant shine.
As a final touch, the letters are painted
white.
The sign is now complete.
